Designed a CYOA Feature for FarmVille 2

I designed a Choose Your Own Adventure for FarmVille 2. The stories included old and new feature-specific characters.

This delightful map delivered the idea of traveling though FarmVille. However, a few places overlapped due to space constraints and all the information we had to convey. We overcame this by structuring the choices so that these places would never be shown together.

Stories With Choices

Everything is always happy and bright in FarmVille. I had to make sure the stories stayed in the realm of cute conflicts and silly misunderstandings, while intriguing the player and making them invest in the journey.

A Better Ending

The story had two endings, depending on the choices made. Each ending had its own set of rewards. Players got a chance to replay the feature and collect the rewards they’d missed. The difficulty was adjusted to make replay easier.

The main story had 12 chapters and was designed to be played over 21 days. We needed to create a mechanic through which players would remember the story and remain engaged till the very end. The Journal did this by visually summarizing each chapter. We further incentivized completing each chapter in a specified time by giving players stars for the same. The stars were recorded here in the Journal.
